We woke up this morning (Sunday) and fog had set in. Our tour guide recommended that we not go to the Great Wall but instead go to The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and Old Beijing. It was amazing to see the Forbidden City and understand how much history is involved (600 years). The construction is very impressive. Erin and I will have to watch "The Last Emperor" again now that we know more about it. Apparently the movie was shot on location there and our guide pointed out some of the locations that were used for the movie. In the old city, we took a rickshaw and got the chance to visit with a family in their home( this was Erin's favorite part). The small home has been in the family for over 150 years. The homes are very old, small and most don't have any bathrooms or plumbing but the value of the land that they rest on is very high ($35,000/square meter). So in essence, the father that we were talking with was a millionaire. The father/grandfather is a Kung Fu Master of 41 years. He has mastered the art of swords and was extremely gracious in welcoming us in his home. He served us hot jazmine tea, gave us a souvenir knots, and showed us a Kung Fu pose with a sword. What an amazing opportunity to learn about the culture and history of Beijing in a way most tourists don't get a chance to do.

Tomorrow morning is the day that we have been waiting for... The first time we meet our son! We will leave the hotel at 6:20am and go straight to the orphanage. We are the first family on Beijing's new system where the family goes directly to the orphanage instead of a government building to pick your child up. We feel honored and blessed to be the family to be able to do this. We will speak to Barrett's caregiver directly and see the orphanage. We have been told that his orphanage is the Ritz Carlton of orphanages. They don't have any lack of money. We will know more about this tomorrow! please pray for God to prepare Barrett's heart for meeting his mommy and daddy.

it is 8:00 a.m here in Beijing and we are enjoying our first breakfast buffet here at the hotel.it had everything you could imagine to eat. I can honestly say I have never had fried rice and Sichuan spicy cucumber for breakfast, but it was DELICIOUS!!! I guess I won't be losing any weight while I'm here:(

Today were meeting our guide, Helen at 10:00 in the hotel lobby and going to Forbidden city and Tiananmen Square and then to see old Beijing. We thought these tours would be best for today since its foggy and requires a lot of walking. After dinner we will get an early nights rest because we get our sweetie early in the morning!! I will let you know how our day goes.

- Talk to later!

We are T minus4 days!! It has been a long journey but well worth it. The past few days have been absolutely crazy changing our flight, having a garage sale, spending quality time with Bradford, etc. I have been packing all day today and Bradford has been such a big help. I have 3 days left to make phone calls, clean house, get papers notarized, and the list goes on. We haven't left yet and I'm exhausted!!!

Note: We are going to blog each day and post pictures to Facebook.

Prayer request: for God to prepare Barrett's heart for meeting his mommy and daddy, for Barrett to bond with us, for Bradford being away from us for 2 weeks.

Its time to start blogging again! Life has finally slowed down a little for now. I wanted to give a little update on our most recent adoption fundraiser.  We completed our Both Hands project Sept. 15. It was AMAZING!!!  God had His hand on this project from the start.  We had a wonderful team who went over and beyond to help make this project so successful.  Sept. 15 was more than just a project for us.  It was the beginning of a new relationship.  We have really enjoyed getting to know Ms. Patricia and Bradford adores her.
Our team met Sept. 15 at 7:30 to start working. Brad opened us in prayer and then we got busy.  Most of the girls started priming and painting the kitchen and banisters.  The guys prepped the backyard for Nashville Ready Mix to pour the patio.  Other projects included: installing a crawl space door, pressure washing the brick around her home, installing a new ceiling in her kitchen, fixing her back gutter, and spreading mulch in all her flower beds.
Our day ended with a reveal to Ms. Patricia.  This was emotional for all involved.  She was so overwhelmed by what was accomplished and given.  We purposely kept her in the dark about the patio furniture that we had donated by good friends.  When you watch the video, you will see for yourself what we witnessed.
We ask you to support our merchant donors because this would not have been possible without them.
Home Depot, Sherwin Williams, Solomon Builders, Bates Nursery, The Mulch Stop, and John Deere Landscaping.
P.S. - Thank you Katie for making us a meal that we needed after a hard days work.

See our project video and support us in a donation!

Woohoo!! I got a call from Lifesong for Orphans last week. We have been approved for the Both Hands project through Lifesong.  We are so excited about this fundraiser.  With this project, we will build a team to help us work on a widow's house. Our team members will send out letters for their friends to sponsor them for that day.  We have a lot to work on for this project but it is well worth it.  I love that this fundraiser is not just about us or for us.  Through this project a widow will be blessed too.  What better way to fundraise than by helping others through the process.  We are hoping that this will be our last big fundraiser and has the potential to close the gap financially between our costs and our child coming home.  We ask that you prayerfully consider helping as a team member on this project.  Thank you for your continued prayers and support!!

China

2/27/2012

We are writing this bog entry to inform those who have supported and are continuing to support our efforts toward adopting a child.  We have changed our country of origin from Ethiopia to China.  We have been praying about this issue for a while. This decision did not come easy but we feel that it is what God desires for us and our family. In fact is has been one of the hardest decisions to make.  Many factors are involved in guiding this decision and many of those factors have come from the way the program is being run out of Ethiopia. Our agency has kept us updated on other families ahead of us in the process and the issues they are facing with the program. Many of the issues involve inconsistent/unpredictable communication out of Ethiopia.  As an example, some families are still waiting from September of last year to return for their second trip to bring home their child.  This wait between trip one and two was rarely no more then 6 weeks.  It saddens our hearts to know that the children involved with international adoption have no say with how or when they can be brought home.  This has raised many red flags with agencies around the country.  We pray that the situation improves and becomes what it once was prior to our envolement.  Along with the change to China, we have also requested a special needs child.  We feel as though  we are equipped and ready to love and raise a child who has a minor condition(s) that is also waiting for a family to accept them for who God made them to be.

CLICK TO VIEW OUR COFFEE STORE
If you are a coffee drinker and have not tried Just Love Coffee, you are missing out.  It is hand roasted in small batches in Murfreesboro, Tennessee using the best grade beans you can buy... all organic and shade grown!  What does that all mean?  It means you will not taste any bitterness or have any nasty after-taste that most coffee will give you including Starbucks.  With all that said, when you purchase a bag, you will help Erin and I get closer to our adopted child.  For every bag purchased, we receive $5!  The owner of Just Love adopted two siblings from Ethiopia and has such a heart for adoption and helping others achieve their fundraising goals.  We have become very close to Just Love not only by producing their promotional videos but also spending time getting to know the wonderful staff and all the love that they give to the coffee and families they help.  Don't just support us but support this company and all the efforts they are making toward orphans.

Dossier

1/5/2012

I wanted to update everyone on our adoption.  With Christmas, a funeral, school, etc. its been hard to work on our dossier but we are almost there.  We plan to mail it off on Monday.  Its going to take a few weeks for our agency get it transcribed and then and then send it to Ethiopia.  We should know then about how long were looking at until or little angel is referred to us.  I can honestly say God is teaching me to be patient and wait for Him.  As we started our dossier I thought we wouldn't be able to raise the $7000 with it being Christmas time. We didn't have any fundraisers planned at the time.  I really don't know why I had slight moment of doubt.  God has provided us with what we need every step of the way. Since we have started the dossier, a friend of mine organized a toy swap which gave us $1,000. One of Brad's client/ close friend is organizing two music videos for Brad to shoot and giving us the full amount.  This will bring us to our exact amount we need for our dossier.  God is Great!!! Thank thank for your love and prayers. More updates to come!!
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. John 14:18.

Christmas Time!!

12/20/2011

I hope you all are enjoying this Christmas season and the birth of our Savior. I know its so easy to get caught up in this craziness of gifts, parties, decorating, etc. Been there. Done that. I look forward to a relaxing Christmas here with family.
As we have been getting ready for Christmas, its really made me want our little one here with us now. Bradford and I made a gingerbread house the other day and he looks at me and says "Mommy, I wish my brother was here to make this with me. I know God is protecting him and working on bringing him home." Um, yes I had tears and chills. My response: " Me too baby, and you are right. God is with him and He will bring your brother home soon.  A sweet friend of mine gave us an Africa ornament which is hanging in the middle of our tree and reminds us of our little guy even though he isn't here yet. Thank you for all your continued prayers and support!!
